I was waiting for my driver to pick me up Friday after church and two boys came up to me wanting to sell me some bracelets. I negotiated a price and then gave them a pen each and a soda. They said they needed shoes so I told them to be at the same place on Saturday at 5pm and I would take them to get them some shoes. At 5pm sure enough they were there but now there were three boys. So we negotiated our way through rush hour traffic to the "mall" to buy some shoes in the Shari Now area of Kabul. Found the children's shoe store and got them all some tennis shoes. These boys looked like they hadn't had a bath in a month of Sundays. They tried on shoes with dirty bare feet until they found a pair that fit. None of them had any socks on. I guess they can't afford them. So they all left the store as pleased a punch with a new pair of shoes.

Aw how nice of you to do that :)
Ahhh....that was nice!
That was really nice!! I can't believe you are running around Kabul? With locals...what if they thought you were kidnapping them?
Did the kids understand English?
